Frequently asked questions

What is Reapt?

Reapt is a service with a name: Amy. You text her, email her or talk to her on the web, and she finds the business expenses in the records you already have, so you review instead of collect, and your CPA sees where every number came from. It is for US freelancers, 1099 contractors and small business owners. It does not prepare or file returns or give tax advice.

Who is Amy?

Amy is the face and voice of Reapt, the one you text, email or talk to on the web about your business expenses. She finds your likely business expenses in the records you send her, asks only what she can't work out, and keeps everything ready for you and your CPA.

Is Amy a real person?

No, and she'd be the first to say so 😄 Amy is Reapt's character: the face and voice of the service you text, email or talk to on the web. She has a personality, not a license: she isn't an accountant and gives no tax advice.

Do I need to download an app?

No. You talk to Amy by text message, by email or on the web. There is nothing to download and no bank login to hand over.

What do I send her?

The statements you download from your bank and card companies, and your receipts. Connecting your email and calendar is optional.

Does Reapt connect to my bank?

No. You send Amy the statements you download from your bank. There is no bank login to share.

Do I need to connect my email or calendar?

No. Amy works from your statements and receipts. Your email and calendar, if you choose to connect them, give her more to work from.

What if I lost my receipts?

Amy still reads your statements and finds your likely business expenses, and she tells you which records are missing, so you know what is worth looking for. A missing receipt does not mean the expense did not happen; our lost receipts guide explains what the IRS rules ask for.

Can Amy find expenses that are not on my statements?

She looks for them. Some business expenses never show up as a single charge; you confirm each one Amy finds.

Does Amy decide what is deductible?

No. Amy finds likely business expenses and shows where each one came from. You review and confirm, and you and your CPA decide what is deductible.

Does Reapt file my taxes?

No. Reapt does not give tax advice, prepare returns or file them.

Can my accountant see where the numbers came from?

Yes. Every line shows its source, and your accountant makes the call.

How much does Reapt cost?

Pricing has not been announced.

How do I get access?

Reapt is in early access. Tell us about your work on the early access page.

How is my data protected?

Records are encrypted at rest and stored in the US, anything you bring to Amy on the web is encrypted on its way to us (a text or an email crosses your carrier's or email provider's network first), each user's data is kept separate from every other user's, and we never sell your data. You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time.

I am a CPA. How does Reapt work with my clients?

Your clients talk to Amy, and their expenses reach you organized and explained, every number traced back to its source. See Reapt for CPAs and ExpensesFiled.
